A thoroughly enjoyable Friday night out again with my two photographer friends. This week saw us exploring night photography at Flamborough.
Planning for low tide was near perfect ;-) Planning for ambient light was much less so ;-( No moon.
Plan B was therefore to take advantage of the main source of light: the lighthouse.
After a fairly lengthy climb down the cliff, we set up our tripods in different positions and then experimented with various light painting devices to bring out the wonderful detail in the cliffs. The cliffs in this shot were illuminated by myself running the length of the beach during a 30 second exposure, flashing my speedlite flash in test mode at the cliff face.
The end results weren't too bad and this is my favourite shot of the night.
Processing was done in raw to balance some over and underexposed areas of the cliff face (adjustment brush is wonderful for this). A slight tweak also in raw to reduce the noise from the high ISO.
I then processed into a split tone mono shot rather than a pure black / white
