I ran into my buddies from Occupy Chicago on Goose Island on a cold and rainy night.
They were protesting the surprise closing of the Serious Energy window plant there.
A few years ago the Vice President of the United States toured the plant after it reopened after Serious Energy bought it with the help of federal stimulus funds from Republic Windows.
After three years Serious Energy decided to close the plant because it wasn't profitable and Serious Energy said they didn't ever think it could be profitable.
They cited low demand for their product, high lease costs and the high taxes of Chicago and Illinois.
In other words the company was getting fleeced.
More and more jobs are being driven from this state by a government that makes doing business here difficult and prohibitively expensive.
The people who make things are losing their jobs every day.
The people who don't make anything are making fortunes.
Something's wrong.
It's 'Vulture Economics.'
It's going to take a lot of sacrifice and courage to fix the problem.
And the problem is that I don't see any leaders with the balls or the courage to do just that.
Did you hear that sound?
That's the sound of jobs leaving Illinois never to return.
Get used to it.
