out in the sticks has added a photo to the pool:
The sad side of nature, a parasitic grub - presumably of a wasp* - feeding off a live spider. The spider was repeatedly pacing up and down, making the same line thicker and thicker, but could do nothing about the creature on its back.
*Edit: Entymologist friend of mine says he thinks this is some sort of beetle larva, possibly Carabidae.
The spider is a long-jawed orb weaver, or stretch spider.
