Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)

Critter Seeker has added a photo to the pool:

Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)

A male. The largest woodpecker in North America (unless the Ivory-billed still exists). This bird is about the size of a crow and is spectacular to watch in action. Getting a decent photo of this bird had eluded me for a long time.

Taken at Starved Rock State Park in Illinois.
