Shelter

Braeden Petruk has added a photo to the pool:

Shelter

Life -- everything from the size of protozoa to marine life the size of blue whales, and everything in between -- needs shelter. We need somewhere safe to rest while we regenerate cells and energy, somewhere to escape from the threats that constantly surround us, and for more intelligent species, somewhere to call home.

While the ground, and pretty much every open surface, was covered by thick, wet snow after the storm on Thursday morning, beneath the string branches of this spruce tree was a reprieve from the winter wonderland. Any number of organisms and animals could have made a temporary home under here throughout the event. Without such a shelter, storing food and staying warm could be an extremely difficult task!

When I climbed under this tree and pointed my camera to the sky, I was blown away by the awesome white rims of snow that surrounded each branch. I can assure you that it looked so much cooler in person!
