6:26pm, Barcaldine aerodrome - the apron has been resealed since my last post of the aerodrome below - never seen so many aircraft there in my life in the small town on that night - 3xDash 8's and a Piper - Whoo Hoo!
Barcaldine is located 1080 km north west of Brisbane and is a wool growing and cattle raising district. The town is well known for its famous Tree of Knowledge. The 150-year-old ghost gumtree is a memorial to the shearers who held their strike meetings there. Known as the ‘Garden City of the West’, it was the first Australian town to tap the waters of the Great Artesian Basin, an event commemorated by the town’s giant windmill. After the 1891 Shearers' Strike, the Australian Labor Party was born here.
